Lady A concert review

Kristen B. showed up at 1:15 for the 8pm show.  That is some Lady A passion.  She was not alone.  About 200 die-hard were lined up by 6:15pm.  A number of those were wearing skirts and boots.  I was cold in 5 layers of clothes.  Those skirt clad women are either much tougher than me or they couldn’t feel their legs anymore.  You gotta love the G.A. floor!

Karelynn was our KSUX backstage winner to enjoy the “Lady A Lounge”.  I’ve been to dozens of backstage events here in Sioux City.  This was the best.  Lady Antebellum had about 35 fans in an intimate setting with beverages and GAC on TV.  We had a “host” for the room that went over the game plan and then Charles, Hillary and Dave came out sand two songs acoustically and answered questions in between the performance.  The ever-bubbly Josie Cooper asked about Hillary Scott’s wedding colors.  Charles had that answer.  A young lady with serious health problems asked about their bucket lists.

Here were there answers:

Charles Kelley – Golfing with his father in Scotland
Hillary Scott – opening a special needs school in Haiti and becoming a mother
Dave Haywood – Playing with James Taylor and becoming a father

Then, Jeff (in the row behind us) told Lady A of his plan to pop the question after “I Run to You”.  The group wished him good luck.  More on that later…

I don’t want to say that the Lady A lounge was emotional, but I spotted tears in the eyes of 3 people in my row alone.

Man, that Charles Kelley is tall…

Now, for the actual concert action:

Eden’s Edge repeated their performance from October 27th with Reba.  I really wanted to see a little more from Eden’s Edge.  It is nice to see their song “Amen” climbing up the charts though...

Josh Kelley channeled his inner “Will Smith” with a sample of “Parents Just Don’t Understand”.  I did not see that one coming.  JK sounded best when he was with his brother.

The best non-concert highlight of the event came during the dance-off for “Lady A inner circle” tickets.  The TEC was jammin’ to “Moves like Jagger”, “Party Rock Anthem” and “I’m Sexy and I Know it”.  Congrats to that dude who won.  He should so be part of the next concert at the TEC.

Man, Lady A was good.  Their harmonies were heavenly.  The group sing was great.  They really have the star power that just captivates a room.  It’s the same magic that filled the room when Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift performed at the TEC.  You knew those acts were all on the rise.

Four things that were on my mind that night:

1)    Why didn’t Hillary Scott introduce her fiancé’ on stage.  Chris from New York was all she said.  Of course the die-hards that were outside the TEC 7 hours early in skirts probably already knew…
2)    Ladies, if your boyfriend proposes in front of 7,000 people, you have to say yes on stage, right?  And then let him down?
3)    When was the last time a country act sang an Aerosmith song at the TEC?  I know Mark Chesnutt has never played there…
4)    Where do I get one of those Elvis Santa hats?  My boys would be so embarrassed.  That’s awesome.

I’m not sure there has been an act in Sioux City that seems to get along with themselves as well as Lady A.  They have genuine chemistry.  You can tell they care deeply for each other and are on the same page.  I think that is evident on stage.  Perhaps, they are the anti- Guns & Roses?
